The EYFS identifies four distinct but complementary themes, which celebrate the skills and competence of babies and young children:
- A Unique Child
- Positive Relationships
- Enabling Environments
- Learning and Development
Whilst children are born ready, able and eager to learn, development is not an automatic process; it depends on each unique child having opportunities to interact in positive relationships and enabling environments. Our fully qualified & experienced team understand the interrelationship between growth, learning, development and the environment in which they are cared for and educated, the children are encouraged to develop as individuals supported by the following principles:
At Early Years we recognise that children need to be stretched, but not pushed beyond their capabilities, so that they can continue to enjoy their future education. The provision of well-planned, purposeful play, in all seven areas of learning, with a balance of adult-led & child-initiated activities helps build the foundations for children’s school readiness whilst working towards achieving the Early Learning Goals by the end of the EYFS. Your child’s achievements will be recorded in their individual development folders, called “All About Me”; these records are kept from birth through to school age and can be viewed at anytime.
The staff liaise with parents on a regular basis to exchange information about the children, including activities undertaken outside of Nursery and achievements made within the home. These combined with photographs and pieces of the children’s work help to build a unique and personal keepsake of their days at Nursery.
Throughout the year children will be involved in a variety of special topics and ‘fun days’, to introduce them to a wide range of cultural festivals and charitable fundraising opportunities. Often featured in local newspaper articles, the Nursery has an ability to help the children grow and develop by creating exciting and interactive learning opportunities, led through play within a traditional ‘village nursery’ atmosphere.
Throughout the provision we endeavour to lay secure foundations for your child’s learning and development, to ensure they are ready for school. There are seven areas of learning and development identified in the EYFS; all of them are important and inter-connected. Three prime areas are particularly crucial for igniting children’s enthusiasm and curiosity for learning:
- Communication and language:
- Physical development;
- Personal, social and emotional development.
Providers must also support children in four specific areas, which include essential skills & knowledge that grow out of the prime areas & provide important contexts for learning:
- Literacy;
- Mathematics;
- Understanding the world;
- Expressive arts and design.
Every child is a unique child who is constantly learning and can be resilient, capable, confident & self-assured
Children learn to be strong and independent through positive relationships
Children learn & develop well in enabling environments, in which their experiences respond to their individual needs & there is a strong partnership between practitioners & parents/carers
Children develop & learn in different ways. The framework covers the education & care of all children in early year’s provision, including children with special educational needs & disabilities
